Storage Wars Lawsuit: Lockers Were Staged

News of a Storage Wars lawsuit has hit the reality TV world like a ton of dusty old packing boxes. Now that more details of the claims that David Hester are making about the show have been revealed, it’s starting to sound a little more believable to me. I was with this show from the very beginning, and I’ll be honest, it never really occurred to me that it could be staged. Sure, it’s not that far fetched, but I just figured that somehow regular people left some really interesting things in storage and just stopped paying their bills. Anyway, the claim made by Hester is that producers would stop filming right in the middle of things and plant intriguing items in the lockers. The bidders featured on the show would then pretend to be really excited… doesn’t Barry come to mind on this one? Part of the claim is that it originally started off as a secret, where producers would do it without letting the cast know. Can you imagine how cheesy Dave, Barry, or Darryl feel knowing that some of the things they found in lockers were planted? That would piss me off… if this is true. RadarOnline [...]

Cheryl Cole & Girls Aloud: BBC Radio One Live Lounge Ladies

Kicking off the day with some media duties, Cheryl Cole and her Girls Aloud cohorts paid a visit to BBC Radio One Live Lounge in Maida Vale this morning (December 14).

Ms. Cole was joined by Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh, Sarah Harding, and Nadine Coyle as she hammed it up for the shutterbugs and fans who gathered at the London locale.

Earlier this week, Cheryl noted that she and the gals have been working hard to get their live show up to snuff for the forthcoming tour.

“It's taken us all this week just to rehearse for the Jingle Bell Ball, so I'm sure there is going to be a lot of rehearsals for the tour as well. I'm sure it's going to be spectacular.”

Michael Jackson To Appear On Pepsi Cans

More than one billion cans will be imprinted with the late pop icon's image.
By Gil Kaufman

More than three years after Michael Jackson's death
, the pop icon will be at the beach, the pool, the 7-Eleven and everywhere in between this summer thanks to a new deal with PepsiCo.

According to The Wall Street Journal the #2 soda company is going back to the future with a massive campaign that will have Jackson's image imprinted on more than one billion cans of soda as part of its new global "Live For Now" marketing push.

Nearly 30 years after Jackson first agreed to be the voice of the brand, an agreement has been reached with Jackson's estate, though reps for both sides declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal. When Jackson signed on to shill Pepsi in 1984 he was paid a then-record $5 million. A representative for the estate said the PepsiCo campaign is the first branding deal executed since Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50.

While Jackson was handsomely paid in the 1984 deal, it was during the filming of an ad for that sponsorship that his life was forever altered. While shooting a commercial for Pepsi, a pyro effect went wrong and Jackson's hair caught fire, seriously burning his face and scalp and requiring multiple skin grafts and resulting in intense pain. It has been speculated that Jackson's addiction to pain medications may have begun after the mishap.

The new campaign is timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Jackson's Bad album. PepsiCo will start distributing the special-edition cans in China this weekend and they will arrive in the U.S. later this month. The 16-ounce, collector's-edition can in the U.S. will feature a special download code that will link to downloads of Bad remixes. Though TV ads will debut in China later this month, it has not been determined yet if similar spots will air in the U.S.

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.
By James Montgomery

Officially, Lollapalooza ended Sunday night in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="1244299">the Killers</MTVNLINK> and <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="702">Jane's Addiction</MTVNLINK>. Unofficially, it ended very early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.

To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="986">Foo Fighters</MTVNLINK> frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="503135">Queens of the Stone Age</MTVNLINK> mastermind Josh Homme and <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="993">Led Zeppelin</MTVNLINK> legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.

According to some reports, the Vultures actually turned down Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.

Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called Never Deserved the Future, and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).

The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Jim DeRogatis.

It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.

Early Monday, a Crooked Vultures Twitter account, which had previously posted links to the band's official-looking Web site and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a Deserve the Future T-shirt. Cost: $30.

Britney Spears Shows Sassy Side In 'X Factor' Promo

In 17-second promo, Spears seems to be taking a page from Simon Cowell's judging book.
By Jocelyn Vena

If anyone thought Britney Spears might be the nicest person on the "X Factor" judges' panel, then they might want to think again.

In a new 17-second promo for the show, Spears shows off she's got quite a lot of critical bad-girl sass lurking deep down inside that sweet Southern demeanor. Some of her choice quips from the super-short teaser, posted on the Los Angeles Times website, include, "You can't destroy that song, sweetie," "Very predictable" "Bad to the bone," and "You definitely don't have the 'X Factor.' You know these people are driving so far out of their way to come in and to perform and put themselves out there," Spears explains, in the clip posted on Idolator. "It's really kind of hard to tell some of them no."

She added that she has a very visceral reaction when there's a bad audition. "I usually can't look when they're bad. I can't look," she said, adding that she has also seen a lot of talent while out on the road. "There have been extremely talented people, very good."

Now that the audition process is over, the next step for Spears and her "X Factor" judges is boot camp."Wow can't believe @TheXFactorUSA auditions are over," Spears tweeted on Tuesday.
