There’s no denying that Michael Phelps is a great swimmer and, after today (August 4), his Olympic career is officially over.
The 27-year-old athlete earned his 22nd medal, the most out of any Olympic athlete, after racing in the 4×100 medley relay at London's Aquatic Centre.
Phelps and his three teammates, Matt Grevers, Brendan Hansen and Nathan Adrian, finished in 3 minutes, 29.35 seconds to beat Japan and Australia.
He finishes his astonishing career with 18 golds and 22 overall medals, including four golds and two silvers in London.
Fellow Olympians took to Twitter to show their support including 2008 Women’s Gymnastics All-Around champion Nastia Liukin who shared, “Amazing!! RT @USOlympic: Most decorated Olympian of all time@MichaelPhelps ends his career with 22 Olympic medals (18 GOLD!) in 24 races.”
